Liberty seals title in Bath.

BUDLEIGH Salterton tennis player Liberty Brown claimed a major honour at the 2010 Team Bath Festival Tournament held at Bath University last week.

he teenager began the competition as the number four seed but she won the event the hard way, toppling the number one seed, Hannah Cadwallader from North Wales on her way to lifting then title.
The week long tournament attracted payers from all over the UK and culminated in final’s day last weekend.
Earlier in the week, Liberty beat Megan Richard-Morris from South Wales 6-0 6-3 before beating the top seed 7-6 6-0 in the semi-finals.
Liberty faced Lauren Hill from Dorset in the final - who had already beaten the number two seed Sarah Collinge of Devon in the last eight.
The final was a close encounter and went to three sets with Liberty coming out on top, 6-3 1-6 11-9.
Liberty, coached by Derek Blackmore at LED’s Exmouth Tennis Centre, had to work hard to secure one her career best victories at the LTA High Performance Centre.
She said: “I had to dig deep a couple of time. I knew Hannah would be tough and it took me 13 sets points to win the first set in a set tie-break. I was so glad that I was able hold my nerve. Then, in the final, I had to save a match point against me when Lauren when 9-8 up in the deciding match-tie break, before winning 11-9”
Liberty is now playing in one of the Southwest’s biggest tournaments at the Torbay Open that started this week.
