The Toolstation Western League has announced their intention to hopefully conclude the Les Phillips Cup competition before the start of the new league season in the summer of 2021.
Given the Government’s announcement that outdoor sport can restart from March 29, it is hoped that sufficient time remains to complete the outstanding semi-finals and final fixtures. The Board also welcomed the FA’s intention to complete this season’s FA Vase competition.
The Western League considered a number of options for an additional ad-hoc tournament once football is allowed to resume on March 29.
However, given the hospitality restrictions on clubs, they have decided not to pursue the idea of a new tournament.
While it is obviously a shame that competitive grassroots football remains a distant dream for Exmouth Town, it is totally understandable for clubs to avoid the cost of playing games at a time when no money can be made through the clubhouse.
