Exmouth Town Golf Society held the first meeting of the new season at Lyme Regis Golf Club where fourteen hardy souls braved the near arctic conditions.

Fortunately the biting wind was only felt on the coast holes and considering the weather the course was in good condition.

Once again course specialist Steve Latham proved to be the man to beat and no one could compete with his excellent return of forty three points off a handicap of nineteen (which will be the last time he plays off that handicap this season or next!).

This is the third year in a row that Steve has won this opening event yet he still maintains he does not pick up a club during the winter. Pete Skinner (18) just edged out John Dibsdall (19) on count back for second place with thirty five points.

Nearest the pin was won by Mike Partridge and new Captain Martin Jewell was the nearest in two on the 18th. Mike Partridge and Peter Skinner shared the two’s pot.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, April 24 at Launceston Golf Club first tee 2.00pm followed by Exeter Golf and Country Club on Thursday May 16.

New members are always welcome and anyone wishing to obtain further information should contact Phil Beynon, Secretary on 01395 279080 or John Dibsdall, Treasurer on 01395 264613.
