Lane wins the Rising Star tournament in Warwickshire

Exmouth's Alex Lane won the aptly-named Warwickshire under 14 Rising Star tournament after the Cranford junior beat Scottish number one Josh Neil 15-10, 10-15, 15-9 in the final.

Exmouth's Alex Lane won the aptly-named Warwickshire under 14 Rising Star tournament after the Cranford junior beat Scottish number one Josh Neil 15-10, 10-15, 15-9 in the final.It was a great way to sign off the season for the England international who gave the home support in Warwick plenty to cheer in a draw that was dominated by a strong Scottish squad of players.After sweeping all before him in the group stage where he conceded just 10 points throughout, Alex took on the Scots in the knock-out stage to beat Frazer Whillins 15-3, 15-7 in the quarter-finals and Adam Hall 15-6, 16-14 in the semi-finals.His subsequent final victory over Josh Neil was impressive with his opponent having won his last two tournaments in Europe. The singles attracted a huge entry with the two satellite venues also in operation.In the doubles, Alex resumed his partnership with Sam Parsons (Warks) to reach the final where they took the title after beating Adam Hall and Josh Neil (Scotland) 16-14, 15-13.Alex's mother, former England number one Suzanne Louis Lane, said: "With the summer break now coming up, it's always good to win your last tournament of the season and Alex did really well to win two gold medals.
