ENGLAND international, Ben Lane, son of Cranford coach and former England star Suzanne Louis Lane, finished the season on a high note by capturing the Warwickshire Rising Star under 12 singles title in Warwick. With big brother Alex having won the under 14 Rising Star title just weeks before, Ben made it a family double by beating Oliver Thompson (Surrey) 21-20 in the final. In his group, Ben beat Avinash Gupta (Bucks) 21-7, Lewis Sandy (Hants) 21-7 and James Yang (Leics) 21-4, before beating David Jones (Berks) and Alex Verda (Yorks) 21-7, in the knock-out stage of the competition. In the semi-finals, Ben defeated Bucks junior Kalana De Silva 21-12.In the doubles, Ben Lane teamed up with Denmark's Philip Steering and they concluded their five-match winning run with victory over Berkshire's Max Flynn and Andrew Jones, son of former Exmouth schoolboy and Devon star Alistair Jones 21-19.The tournament attracted players from all over the UK, including three top juniors from Denmark and, like his brother before him, winning a gold medal in his last tournament of the season was a great way to sign off for Ben.
