As we gear up for the seasons competitions, members have been busily pairing up to play together and represent the club in league and friendly matches, writes John Bridgman.

We look forward to the season ahead with high hopes and the desire to come out at the top of the leader board.

The weekend competition was an American Greensome that was won by Ian Kirk and Simon Courtney scoring 50 points.

Jim Holland and Glen Dawson were placed second with 49. A close run thing by all accounts! Third place went to Paul Heys and Martin McMaster on 46, beating Steve Newman and Paul Ritchie with a better back nine, also on 46.

The midweek stableford saw Martin Small home with 42 points from Richard Thomason scoring 37. Third placed Alex Freer scored 36.

A stableford Nip and Tuck meeting kept the seniors engaged for a few hours with Terry Welsh, Robin Drake and John Man winning with 78 points. It would take to long to explain the rules of this game, but be assured it has nothing to do with ‘cosmetic surgery’.

Dave Freeman, Peter Warner and Don Johns scoring 70 were second, and third place went to Peter Stone, Rob Dart and Simon Davies with 68.

Another week has passed us by and for some it has proved to be successful, for others not so good. For the latter keep on trying, your day will come I’m sure. To all golfers everywhere, happy whacking, cheers John.
