THE Budleigh outdoor season commenced in earnest with a twelve rink 'Ladies and Mens Captains' Day' mixed 'friendly' competition, writes Paul Griffin. The opening event provided some keen contests for all participants and some much-needed practice for the more 'rusty' bowlers. The competition was won by the triple of Margaret Ratcliff, Burgess Stace and skip Terry Kelly with a score of plus 19.The joint runners-up, with a score of plus 18, were the triples of Dianzee Lowe, Stuart Butler and Sydney Cole, and John Dance, Audrey Taylor and Bunty Hudson. Aching limbs were then rested during which tea and cakes provided by the ladies were thoroughly enjoyed.During the week the Men's over 60's teams held a practice day in order to limber up for the season ahead. Budleigh are again entering three teams in the over 60's league where they hope to build on the success of last year when two teams were promoted to higher leagues.
