On the same day as the London event, Exmouth Harrier Adrian Kearns was at Llanelli in west Wales for the Great Welsh Marathon, writes Dave Eveleigh.

This was a much, much smaller race, with around 250 finishers.

Kearns was inside his 3:15 target with 3:10:39, finishing 22nd overall and fifth of 63 men aged 40-44.

Our man described an enjoyable race mostly on runner-friendly cycle paths, but a troublesome wind which seemed to strengthen as the day progressed, this latter factor perhaps suggesting that a time just under three hours just might be possible for him in better conditions.
