A smaller field than usual turned out for the latest Woodbury Park, midweek competition, writes Carole Pye.

Ralph Karkeek emerged as the winner with 42 points whilst Martin Small had to settle for the runners-up berth with 40 points.

The Acorn Ladies travelled to the Westcountry Golf Club in Sampford Peverell for the final friendly match of the season.

Although the Woodbury ladies are used to a longer course, the 9 hole, par-3, played over 18 holes, provided a different challenge and produced for the visitors, a convincing 5-1 victory.

The last major fixture of the season “The Atkinson Trophy” proved very popular, drawing a large field of both men and ladies.

The overall winner in the men’s division was John Dick scoring an impressive 45; Nigel Hardy (43) was runner-up. The ladies’ division was won by Sue Carver on 40, followed by Sara Beaven (38)

After a convincing defeat at China Fleet earlier in the season, the Seniors had hoped to turn the tables in the return home match. Perfect conditions provided an enjoyable game which could have gone either way. In the end a 4-all draw was a fair outcome.
