The LED Exmouth Tennis and Fitness centre hosted a special event last week.

The event, ‘SheRallies’, is a programme created by Judy Murray OBE to get girls and women active on court.

It also trains female activators (some who may not even be in tennis) to deliver activities in their local area for young girls, teens and women.

Judy Murray was in Exmouth to help promote the programme and was incredibly inspiring with her time and effort to run the event and also engage in a session of questions and answers.

Judy explained that her inspiration for starting SheRallies came from being the captain of the Fed Cup team in 2011, and wanting to create more opportunities for girls at the grass root level.

Exmouth resident Katie Millar, the tennis coordinator at the University of Exeter, was at the event and she said: “Judy will be continuing to deliver her programme across the country and inspiring females such as myself to get girls of all ages on the court.

“From my experience, I have noticed at university level that female students are less likely to perform a sport in front of males, and females usually attend in groups.

“Therefore, I will be taking Judy’s influential ideas back to the University of Exeter to not only inspire girls to pick up a racket, but to keep girls playing tennis.”
