JO LOUIS has recently been taking part in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Seniors' World Championships in Turkey and has returned home the proud recipient of two bronze medals.
Louis, manager of the Leisure East Devon (LED) managed Exmouth Tennis and Leisure Centre, reached the semi-finals in both the over-40s' singles and the over-35s' doubles events at the tournament, which featured the top players in world senior tennis.
Ranked number 11 in the world before the tournament, she has now moved up to third spot following her success. Louis won three matches to reach the semi-final stage, including a convincing win against the player ranked number three in the world at the time, before being beaten by the eventual winner, Austria's Lucy Schwab-Zelinka.
In the doubles event Louis was joined by Nottingham's Isabelle Tyrrell and narrowly missed out on a place in the final at the hands of eventual silver medalists from New Zealand Belinda Bennett and Julia Sim.
Louis said: "To come back to Exmouth with two bronze medals is really pleasing. World events like this are always very competitive and I'm thrilled to have made the semis in both my events. My colleagues at Leisure East Devon have been really supportive of my continued playing career and it's fantastic for me to be able to combine tennis competitions with managing the centre - some might think I'd get a bit sick of tennis but I count myself lucky that my passion and my job are so mutually beneficial.
