The East Devon ladies spring meeting was held over two days at East Devon, writes Gill Davies.

The medal competition, played on Tuesday, attracted a field of almost 80 ladies. Conditions were good and led to some outstanding scores.

Eilidh Cameron played a super round of golf coming in with the best gross score of 80 and so she landed the Baker Cup.

New golfer, Jenny Dobel, achieved a fantastic net score of 64 and that was sufficient to land her the Burden Cup.

In the Division 1, Sue Fowler came first with a net 73. Elaine Bright with 74 was second and third place went to Jill Miller who edged out Gill Davis after count back was used with both players finishing on 75.

In the Division 2 Jenny Dobel was first with 64, Helen Hughes came secon with 67, Suzanne Reed followed with 74 and Pat Jarvis was fourth with 75.

On Thursday, conditions proved more challenging with strong winds and occasional hail showers.

Sally Underwood and Helen Chivers won the Foursomes competition with 35 pts. They were closely followed by Judy Murray and Eilidh Cameron on 34 pts. Carole Brailey and Sally Stratton came third on count back from Anne Boyle and Margaret Webb, both with 32 pts.

At the prize giving, Jenny Dobel, who has just learned to play golf through the Academy at East Devon, thanked the head professional Trevor Underwood for his encouragement and patience. The Academy, set up in 2011 to teach new players, has certainly come up trumps!
