Hurst and Hislop in Pankhurst trophy joy

THE Tennis Section of the Budleigh Salterton Games Club held its annual American Tournament for the Pankhurst Trophy and it was Kevin Hurst who scored the most points in the Men's section whilst Katherine Pankhurst came top in the Ladies' section.

THE Tennis Section of the Budleigh Salterton Games Club held its annual American Tournament for the Pankhurst Trophy and it was Kevin Hurst who scored the most points in the Men's section whilst Katherine Pankhurst came top in the Ladies' section.Play had been delayed by a week because of rain, but in the end, the weather was glorious.The mixed doubles competition is organised in such a way that each individual earns points for every game won out of a possible 32.The highest scoring man was Kevin Hurst with 25 points and the highest scoring woman was Katherine Hislop with 21 points.Runners up were Ian Horlock and Susie Lance. The event was very relaxed and fun and ended with tea and cakes, organised by Maureen Greenwood.The trophy was designed and made by David Pankhurst and presented to the club to mark his wife, Marianne's, birthday.Marianne is a keen tennis player and supporter of the club.
