Budleigh's single successful rink was that of John Dill, Dace Helman, Gerry Roberts and Rod Davidson, who led from end two and won 18-11.
The Budleigh Hawks strengthened their hold on second place in the Symes, Robinson & Lee Evening League with a close 31-28 victory over clubmates, the Eagles.
The Hawks' triple of Dick Mitchell, Bernard Brace and Brian Lofts hung on to win by one shot, despite a late surge by Alan Cottle's side.
On the second rink, Eagles' skip Gerry Roberts, with Derek Stanley and Mike Shaw, made a flying start and found themselves leading David Evans' side 11-0, only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on the last end. The Hawks won 15-13.
The Eagles' second match of the week landed them five points for an aggregate win over the Madeira Reds.
Ron Tyler's triple drew 17-all, while Stuart Watson Gerry Roberts and skip Vince Smith enjoyed an extraordinary game, eventually winning it 16-13.
After seven ends the Eagles had accumulated 13 shots without reply. Although the Reds mounted a great fight-back, winning nine of the final 11 ends, it was to no avail.
The Devon County Indoor Bowling Association Vice Presidents contested a two- rink friendly at Budleigh and won 39-34.
Having dominated the early ends, Terry Kelly's team fell behind on the 15th and lost 16-18.
Gerry Roberts' rink partially recovered from a 2-12 deficit to lose by a modest three shots.
When Vince Smith won his second-round match against John Dill in the club's singles championship, the outcome was not decided until the 24th end when Smith scored three shots to go through 21-18.
Cliff Waycott and Rod Davidson progress to the semi-finals of the pairs competition at the expense of Graham Pitman and Gerry Roberts.
Sidmouth won on three rinks and overall by 78 shots to 65 in an Over-60s' County Trophy fixture. Rob Gerrard skipped his rink of John Dill, Wally Nickels and Tony Stone to a fine 25-13 victory.
