Exmouth Harriers Kelly Thomas and Susan Hill, along with 30,000 runners, started the 126th edition of the Boston Marathon in Hopkinton, Massachusetts on Easter Monday in ideal weather conditions of blue sky and sunshine.
Boston is one of the most prestigious Marathons in the world, it was first run in April 1897 and to run in it you have to run a qualifying time. It is also part of the World Marathon Majors that includes London, New York, Chicago, Tokyo & Berlin with a special medal presented to runners who complete all six races.
Both Kelly & Susan ran strongly throughout the undulating 26.2 miles from Hopkinton into downtown Boston. Kelly finished in a marvellous 3.49.11 and Susan in a superb 3.54.51. Kelly has now run all six of the World Major Marathons and now has the special medal, Susan is hoping to complete the set in the next couple of years.
