MADEIRA BOWLS: East Budleigh's Josh Hadfield defeated England U25 international Neil Yeomans 24-15 as the Devon U21s beat a star-studded Somerset U25 team 171-90 at Taunton Deane.

Against a side sprinkled with junior internationals among their 24-strong team, Devon proved too strong on the day to win on all six rinks with Hadfield having a good day with Josh Ellis (Exmouth) at three.

Hadfield, who bowls indoors for Isca in the winter, has been a member of Budleigh Salteron BC since he started the game in his early teens.

However, he has been linked with a move to Madeira for the 2008 outdoor season.

Devon team manager John Melmore couldn't have been more pleased with his young side, which included Tyler Tremain, 11, from Exeter.

"What a great way to finish the season by winning all six rinks against Somerset for the very first time."

Ryan Whitlock (Torquay Utd) beat England international Kirsty Hembrow 34-11 and Joe Melmore (Torquay Utd) picked up a seven on his way to winning 38-22. There were also wins for Gareth Riddell (32-8) and Rhys Tremain (22-13).
