Madeira held their annual knockout competition for bowlers of less than two years experience, writes Jenny Charles.
Playing for the Bert Webb Trophy, more than 20 bowlers took part in the competition.
The play was of a very high standard throughout, testament to the superb work of the coaches at Madeira who are always willing to help newcomers to get to grips with the noble sport of bowls.
The final was contested between Ian Sowden and Janet Grundy.
It was Grundy, very much a newcomer to the sport, who took the honours.
