Graham sparkles as Exe Jets defeat Cougars in Exmouth Netball League meeting

Exe Jets were 36-32 winners when they met Cougars in an Exmouth and District Netball League match.

Both teams made bright starts and the action was end-to-end. Cougars, with Shelly Stammers and Sam Bradshaw turning over regular balls, held an 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Exe Jets, with some clinical shooting from Molly Graham and Jaz Tuckett, mount quite a comeback, and it was they who led 20-19 at half-time.

In the third quarter, Exe jets centre court players Shelley Brooks, Kelly Ball and Jasmin Horne interchanged well and made excellent interceptions interrupting Cougars’ play and turning over centre passes to such a degree that as the quarter ended Exe Jets held a six goal lead at 30-24.

The final quarter saw a strong finish from Cougars who, with injury meaning a reshuffle and Grace Burley moving to centre, some impressive shooting from Tia Hislop and Isla Smith, meant the outcome of the contest was in the balance right to the final minute.

However, Exe Jets’ solid defence throughout from Hayley Edwards, Clare Tate and Lucy Harris and some excellent finishing from Molly Graham and Jaz Tuckett, led to Exe Jet taking the match honours.

The respective Player of the Match awards went to Molly Graham for Exe Jets and Sarah Bradshaw for Cougars.
