Exmouth's, Exe Table Tennis club have said a very fond fair-well to the much appreciated Mike Naylor,
The ETTA level two, table tennis coach has spent the past two years making the weekly journey from his Plymouth home to coach the Exe TT club’s youngsters (and some of the adults).
His primary role was to raise the standard of play to competition level so that talented youngsters could play competitively in the club and against other local clubs and hopefully play in local leagues or even try out for Devon.
Mike coached individuals, small groups and larger size groups and often used the ‘robot’ for quick fire return shot practice.
He always promoted good gamesmanship but encouraged players to identify their opponent’s weakness and play against these.
Exe TT, which has more than fifty members since its open day and recruitment drive in September, will now be coached by club chairman Howard Back who is signing up to undertake his level two coaching certificate, with help from Paul Humphries and Martin Atkins both experienced players undertaking level one coaching.
Attendance to the Tuesday night sessions at the Exmouth Community College continues to be very good and such is the demand for membership that a waiting list has been set up for new members to join as and when there’s room for more players!
The clubs committee are now considering hiring a smaller hall on a second night to coach the up and coming young and talented players.
Exe TT committee wish all its members a happy new year. The club resumes the Tuesday night sessions on Tuesday, January 10, but will be closed the following week for maintenance work that is being carried out in the hall.
