Geddes nets a Festive success

Exmouth Sea Angling Association held its 90th annual Xmas Fayre event which traditionally marks the end of the season's fixtures, writes Simon Boeree.
Since the very first club event, held in 1921, Xmas Fayre catches have waxed and waned, but for this year, the clubs 90th anniversary, the fish were very obliging!
Over forty flounder and wrasse were recorded during the five hour competition fished in the Exe Estuary with most fish being recorded from the Shelly Beach area.
However, the top catch of the day was a superb sea bass of 10lb 6oz landed near the Octagon by eventual winner Harry Gaddes from Exmouth.
As is the norm at Exmouth Club’s events, once all the fish weights were recorded, including the magnificent Gaddes sea bass, they were returned to the ocean.
At the weigh-in, the Geddes sea bass lifted his bag into the first position for which he was awarded a superb Xmas Dinner with all the trimmings.
Second was Budleigh angler Brian Reed while third was club Secretary Andy Browning. The clubs’ 2012 season begins in earnest early in the New Year and more details are available at www.exmouthsaa.co.uk
