Woodbury Reserves 3, Tipton St John 0
Woodbury Reserves bagged a place in this season’s Geary Cup final with a fine all-round performance.
Kicking with a very strong wind behind them, the Woods were quickly into their stride and they took a 15th minute lead when Alex Hughes rifled home a 20-yuard free-kick.
On the half hour the lead was doubled with Hughes again the scorer, this time his set-piece shot, awarded after Luke Bradford had been hauled down, was from a more acute angle, but the end product was the same!
Woods keeper Alan Doble’s long kicking caused the visitors plenty of problems, but the home team were unable to add to their tally before the break.
In the second half with the conditions making it even harder to play football, Hughes got away and, when his powerful cross was fired across a crowded area it was touched home by a Tipton defender to complete the scoring.
Hughes was named Woodbury Man of the Match.
Woodbury team: Doble, Collins, Allen, Bennett, Vickery, Bradford, Rayson (Amor 65), Hughes, Lewis (Bishop 45), Gooding, Wicks.
