Woodbury's Division Four promotion push got an Easter boost as they claimed a win double with victories over Axmouth United and Okehampton Argyle Reserves.

The weekend began with a 4-0 home win over Axmouth United.

The Woods made the perfect start with a brace of goals inside four minutes! First Alex Hughes scored from the penalty spot before Paul Rowsell headed home a Hughes corner.

after Andy Bennett had headed the ball back across goal.

With 15 minutes to play Alfie Cleave and Hunt linked up prior to Hunt crossing for Leaman to net the third and kill the game off.

In the final minute sub Richie Bourne robbed the ball from a defender and squared to Hughes who executed a perfect lobbed shot up and over the keeper and into the net to complete the scoring.

On Easter Monday Woods fell behind at Okehampton, but levelled when the impressive Steve Hunt, operating from the right back berth, scored after a neat inter-change with Ryan Smith.

Hunt then struck again with a cross-cum-shot, but was unable to go in search of a hat-trick as he was replaced at the break after picking up a late first half ankle injury.

With 20 minutes remaining Woodbury made sure of the points when Declan Bourne rolled the ball through to Hughes for him to slot home.

Woodbury boss Adam Reid was delighted with his team’s Easter efforts.

He said: “Once again the players have got the attitude part dead right. They all worked hard and it was so pleasing to see how the players react to spending time on the bench which is something they all have to do as we freshen things up to make sure we get the end result we all want. I am conscious of the need to rotate to stave off injuries and, with big games on the horizon; I need all the bodies we can muster”

On Saturday the Woods travel top Exmouth Amateurs.

The Fresha League Division Four, top six after the Easter games.
