BUDLEIGH put in a fine team display at a wet and windy Greenway Lane before running out 4-1 winners in an Axminster Hospital Cup tie against Axminster Town.

The Robins were ahead in the 15th minute as Peter Grover whipped in a fine cross on which an Axminster defender handled on the edge of the area and Danny Williams' free kick flew straight in the keeper's bottom left hand corner.

Then the industrious James Turner sprayed a fine ball on to new signing Adam Clarke - making his debut after signing from Peninsula League Premier Division, Witheridge. Clarke controlled the ball and hit a crisp shot into the top left hand corner of the Tigers net from 15 yards.

Danny Williams nearly made it three a couple of minutes later when his shot cannoned back off the keepers left hand post whilst at the opposite end Budleigh keeper Brad Evans made one fine save to deny the visitor's a route back into the game.

The home side began the second half strongly in a bid to put the game to bed and, 15 minutes after the re-start, they increased their lead with a well worked short corner involving Williams and James Nicholls that ended with Williams scoring his twelfth goal of the season.

Ten minutes later Budleigh scored the goal of the game when another short corner was worked well along the 18 yard box and sub Grant Vanson squared the ball back to James Turner who drilled it into the net.

The visitors did manage a consolation goal, on the break, when Glen Vine slotted home with twenty minutes remaining.

Man of the match was a close thing with Williams, Turner, Clark and Osborne all playing really well but keeper Bradley Evans had a fine game in what were terrible conditions and so he took the star player honours.

Robins team; Evans, Pallett, Bradshaw, Everest, Nicholls, Turner, Osborne, Clarke, Grover, Williams, Kelsall. Subs; Vanson, Nield, Schaefli, Badavi, Hitchcock and Howarth.
