The eleven players representing Budleigh Salterton Reserves performed above all expectations in their final away league match of the season, writes SpursTom.

The record will show another defeat for the Robins, but it does not show how hard they worked to keep a strong Crediton United outfit to scoring only four goals, and of finding the target twice themselves.

In fact, it was the visitors who took a surprise lead when Adam Wilkinson took full advantage of a back pass on seven minutes.

The lead was short lived as the hosts equalised three minutes later. Budleigh did not panic, even though they were under pressure for the majority of the half, but sadly conceded just before the break to go in 2-1 down.

Crediton came out strongly and quickly went 3-1 ahead before stretching it to 4-1 by the 62nd minute.

Credit goes to the travelling Robins, who continued playing football; in defence Achref Ghanmi was outstanding, as was goalkeeper Josh Page, giving the other nine members added confidence.

They were battling more, creating chances, of which one was well taken by Ross James to reduce the deficit, and had two penalty appeals turned down by the match referee, who, in my opinion, had an excellent match.

Budleigh may have lost, but manager Alan Barnsley was proud of the effort.

The Robins Reserves complete their Macron League Division Three campaign at home to Clyst Valley Reserves on Saturday (May 5), with the Greenway Lane kick-off being 3pm.
