Budleigh Salterton Under-15s were 6-3 winners when they entertained Okehampton Argyle in an Exeter and District Youth League game, writes SpursTom.
What made the result all the more impressive was that as many as eight of the youngsters had been involved for the club’s reserve team in a Macron League Division Three game just 24 hours before!
In what was a wonderful advert for youth football, there were some outstanding goals from both sides, but star of the show was Will White who scored no fewer than four of the Budleigh goals and that sees him edge ahead in terms of the race to become the teams top scorer this season.
The contest began with a good pace and the opening goal arrived as early as the fourth minute with White netting his first. Nine minutes later it was 2-0 with Ryan Fell making the most of a situation when Okehampton failed to clear a corner.
It was not one-way traffic by any means as the home goal keeper, Ryan Brockway, was called upon to pull off some smart saves before he was beaten by a thunderous strike by Cullum Rutley on 29 minutes. Young White swiftly restored the two goal advantage, but almost from the kick-off Okehampton were back in the game with another well executed goal, this time from Owen Rutley, leaving the Robins 3-2 to the food at half-time.
The first ten minutes of the second period saw Budleigh put the game beyond their opponents reach by hitting the target three times. Firstly White notched his third and fourth with a crisp low drive and a looping back header to make it a perfect striker’s haul of left foot, right foot and header.
Fell completed his brace with a stunner from the left side edge of the area before Elliot Svensson netted a third for Okehampton to complete the scoring.
Budleigh’s remaining five league fixtures are scheduled as follows: April 16, home to Brixington Blues; April 21 away at Cullompton Rangers, May 2 at home to Feniton, May 5 at home to Cullompton Rangers and they complete their season on May 8 with a trip to Tiverton to meet Moors Youth.
