Exmouth Town got their pre-season competitive action underway with a Friday night friendly against Toolstation League Premier Division outfit Willand Rovers, writes Mark Briggs.
The South West Peninsula League top flight new boys certainly gave as good as they got against a side who lifted the Toolstation League Cup (Les Phillips) Cup last season.
In an evenly contested first half the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock was when Town striker Ace High saw the ball canon back off an upright.
The visitors scored with twenty minutes remaining when their leading scorer from last season, Owen Howe, was in the right place at the right time to tuck the ball away.
It took Richard Pears’ men just ten minutes to restore parity when Lloyd Gardner tucked away a spot kick awarded when the lively High was hauled down in the area by a Rovers defender.
