Exmouth Town had their first pre-season training session last night at Southern Road and Town boss Jody Bolt was delighted with the first signs.
He said: “It was all very positive indeed. I am delighted to have the name Exmouth Town Football Club mentioned din the same breadth as the sort of quality that Sam Woodin, James Turner and Chris Wright bring. The three of them are effectively a dream combination to provide a solid spine around which we could well build a side to compete with the very best that the Eastern Division of the Peninsula League offers. Of course I am a realist and I have no doubt that the pre-season period will see all sorts of rumours and counter rumours. For my part, a genuine bread and butter football man I want the best for Exmouth Town and I will work very hard to put out a side that this Town can be proud of. It is certainly time that we lifted all things at Southern Road to new heights and certainly, based on what I saw in the first pre-season session I am very confident that ultimately, that is what we will achieve.”
Goal keeper Chris Wright, defender Sam Woodin and attacking, inventive midfielder James Turner are all now signed at Southern Road and Bolt is hoping to attract similar quality. He says: “I have been lifted by the number of calls I have fielded from players and there’s a real feel-good factor about wanting to be involved with the club right now. We need to bottle what we currently have and look to work hard and enjoy the pre-season so as to be able to hit the ground running when the season proper begins in seven weeks time.”
Woodin will also act as Bolt’s number two. The Town boss says: “Sam is the ideal person to be the management eyes and ears on the pitch. I am looking forward to working with him where I will in charge from the dug-out with Sam in the thick of things on the pitch.”
Town open their League campaign with a Saturday, August 20 Southern Road game against Appledore.
