HERE we take our regular look at who is playing who across the three local football clubs who play in the South West Peninsula League, on the first Saturday matchday of the New Year this coming weekend (January 8).

The big match on the local patch is at Endurance Park where Royal Marines AFC entertains St Austell. The Cornish side were beaten 2-1 when the pair met in the Duchy on September 11th – a Dan Boere double ensuring that Richard Pears’ men brought the point home with them.

The Cornish side will arrive in East Devon sitting ninth in the Premier Division table, one place and four points above the Militarymen having played three games more.

In the Eastern Division both Exmouth Town and Budleigh meet the sides that they played on their home pitches on the opening day of the season back in August. The Robins travel to meet a Bickleigh side they beat by the odd goal in seven at Greenway Lane.

On the road this term the Robins have not torn up any trees as they have won two, drawn two, and lost two, of their six away games in the League so far.

Exmouth Town travel to a Newton Abbot Spurs side who sit two places above them and who they shared a pair of goals with on the opening day at Southern Road.

Town have been impressive on the road this season so far, losing just once in six outings and that only by a single goal at Appledore.
