TOPSHAM Town boosted their chances of a top three finish in the Devon & Exeter League Premier Division and with it a coveted place in the South West Peninsula League Eastern Division when they beat Clyst Valley at home on Saturday. The 3-1 victory was no more than the Tops deserved after another hugely impressive all round display.Terry Rivets got them on their way and, despite the visitors being level at the break, a powerful second half show across the pitch from the home side deservedly gave them a 3-1 win thanks to goals from James Ware and Ryan Pym.With Clyst Valley turning up at Topsham fresh from a midweek 3-0 Morrison Bell Cup win over Peninsula League Exmouth Town, it proved to be an even more poignant victory for the home side given that they aspire to join Town in the Eastern Division next season should they secure a high enough finish this term. With the League releasing a new set of fixtures between now and the end of the campaign, the Tops are left facing a schedule that includes two meetings with Exmouth Amateurs and Bickleigh and a home game against St Martin's. They have to negotiate eight games in a 28 day spell between the end of March and the end of April before they then have a ten day wait to conclude their campaign on Saturday, May 9, at Hatherleigh. There is much left in the season for the Tops who clearly have their destiny, given the remaining games, in their own hands.
