Budleigh Salterton Reserves picked up their first point of the new Macron Devon and Exeter League Division Three season when they drew 1-1 at home to Winchester, writes SpursTom.

After losing their first two matches, the Robins made changes to their line-up, but fell behind after just three minutes of action.

The hosts had to dig deep, not only to prevent further goals, but also to put some pressure on the opposition.

Their honest endeavours were rewarded in the 33rd minute when Guy Laverock applied a smart finish to a neat four-player move. The second half began with Winchester on the front foot, but the Robins, with Achref Ghanmi and Gareth Davies both playing well and being supportive to the midfield, dealt well with the best the visitors could offer.

However, the Budleigh hero, with a Man of the Match performance, which included a penalty save, was Simon Savage making an impressive debut in the home goal. Winchester will probably feel they should have won the match, but the Robins deserved their point, if only because every one of the team gave their all, never giving up, and richly deserving the point they got for their efforts.
