TOWN Ladies, and in particular striker Leanne Hunt, served up a clinical display against lower league opposition to advance to the second round of the Devon Women's League Cup, writes Jeff Allan.Any thoughts of a cup upset on a hot and sunny afternoon were gone after just 25 seconds as top scorer Leanne Hunt ran through the home defence to slot home the opening goal and mark the start of what was to be an astounding ten goal personal haul.Hunt was simply 'on fire' in front of goal. By half time Town had moved into a 5-1 lead with Hunt adding three more and Carlie Lowe also on target. After the break it was more of the same as Hunt seemed to score almost at will. Further goals were added by Jenny Cordwell (2), Lucy Williams and Amy Vinnicombe. The cup win was the perfect response to the previous week's game when the team surrendered their 100% perfect start to the season, beaten by Alphington.Leanne Hunt had netted a first half penalty and Lucy Williams was unlucky when her shot hit an upright before Hunt scored again to take the side in at the break with a 2-0 lead. However the Exeter side were back in the game early in the second half after being awarded a penalty and this galvanised them into a terrific fight back that saw them score two further goals to turn the contest on its head and inflict a rare defeat on Town. The Ladies are back in cup action again this Sunday, October 19, in the Devon FA Women's Cup when they host Exeter Phoenix.
