EXMOUTH Town Reserves made the perfect start to the New Year when they completely outplayed their opponents to maintain their lead in the division, writes John Dibsdall.

Awliscombe came into this game with title ambitions of their own arrived at Southern Road yet to be beaten in a Division Six encounter. However, their fine run was ended by a superb Luke Smith hat-trick.

Two goals from Smith and an effort from leading scorer Josh Kirby gave Town a comfortable 3-0 half time lead.

The second half saw Town coast to victory but not before Smith had completed his well deserved hat trick.

The victory sees Town maintain their table topping berth. They hold a two point lead over Clyst Valley Thirds who are the next opposition for them in the League programme - the sides meeting at Southern Road on Saturday, January 15.

The clean sheet against one of their rivals means that Town have now won all six of their Southern Road League games so far this season, scoring an impressive 34 and conceding just the one!

This Saturday Town return to cup action when they are away to Perry Street side Farway United in the semi-finals of the East section of the Devon Intermediate Cup with an area final against Woodbury a mouth-warming prospect.
