THERE was probably an element of relief tinged with frustration for the Royal Marines AFC when their Devon Premier game at Newton Abbot last Friday night fell to a waterlogged Coach Road pitch.

Relief in as much as the side had gone through a hard two hour slog in heavy conditions at the Greenway Lane home of Budleigh Salterton in a Morrison Bell Cup semi-final that they lost 2-1.

In that titanic struggle they picked up a number of injuries that would probably have been carried into the Friday night game.

However, it would also have been disappointing as the Military men are in red hot form and would have fancied their chances against Western Division Plymstock United who they will now meet, at the same venue, on Friday, March 5, with a 7.15pm kick-off.

There's more cup action for the Royal Marines this weekend with Saturday's Endurance Park meeting against Alphington (2.30pm) when at stake will be a place in the last four of the Throgmorton Cup which is the Peninsula League Cup.

The Military men are not again in League action until their Monday, March 8, visit to Crediton United.

With a number of their players likely to be in Germany this week with the Royal Navy representative side, these are busy times for the Royal Marines' players.

With the defeat at Budleigh in the Morrison Bell Cup not counting as a 1st team game, it means that they continue to sport an unbeaten record that stretches back to mid October and a narrow defeat at the hands of Exmouth Town.

Should that splendid record be intact when they visit Crediton United in ten days' time, it will have stretched to a superb sequence of 14 league and cup ties since they were last forced to taste defeat!
