BUDLEIGH Salterton were merciless in their destruction of Exeter Civil service in a midweek game.
The Robins went into the game looking to record a fourth straight Peninsula League, Eastern Division win, and close to within a single point of table topping Appledore, who they had beaten in their previous outing!
Sam Schlaefli opened the scoring midway through the first half when his 25-yard shot sailed into the net like a rocket.
For the remainder of the half Budleigh continued to press and were unfortunate not to extend their lead before the break.
In the second half, the Robins stepped up another gear and served up some scintillating football.
Karl Rickard struck the crossbar with a fierce drive early on and the same player was brought down five minutes later, which allowed Danny William’s to slot home the penalty that gave the side a two goal lead.
Adam Clark then made it three with a fine strike before Khalid Badavi headed home another good corner from the impressive Clark.
Karl Rickard and Danny William’s hard work resulted in Civil failing to keep the ball and Peter Grover lobbed the stranded Nick Coles from near the halfway line to complete a nap hand of scoring.
Budleigh were not finished, though, and, when sub Sam Bird was hauled down in the area, Adam Clark stroked the spot kick home to make it 6-0.
On this form the Robins could, indeed should, be able to mount a challenge for League honours this term.
