BUDLEIGH Salterton have announced a record sponsorship deal after getting support from R Benson, Property Maintenance Contractors, of Chesham, Bucks. The Company's Managing Director, Robert Benson, is a very keen football follower and became associated with the Robins through a friendship with former Club Chairman Ben Romp, the pair being colleagues at Harrow Borough.
Over the past three seasons the company has provided the club with a state of the art line marker, top quality goal nets, and a triple gang mower and this latest deal will see R Benson worn on the front of the Robins' shirts for the next three seasons. Budleigh Treasurer John Brett says: "We are delighted to be able to announce this deal. It's much bigger than anything we have had in the past and we are very grateful to Robert and his company for their past, current and future support."
Meanwhile on the pitch a 1-1 draw at Exeter Civil Service on Tuesday night extended the Robins' unbeaten start to the season to three games. In front of the largest attendance ever to watch a South West Peninsula League game - 225, which beat the previous record of 168 held by Exmouth Town - it was the Robins who scored first. James Turner, squared the ball to Ashley Barker who struck a venomous shot that flew into the net from fully 30 yards on 80 minutes.
But the hosts, who had also gone into the game unbeaten and, indeed, top of the table, deservedly levelled in the 88th minute with a far post header from a well delivered corner.
"I don't think either side deserved to win the game and so a draw is a fair score. We were a little 'under par' and as a result the game was littered with errors. The plus for us is we remain unbeaten and have not picked up any injuries," said Joint Manager Julian Phillips.
