Robins need lift after run of defeats

Budleigh Salterton make the short trip to Alphington this Saturday looking to end a losing streak.

The Robins lost 2-1 after extra time last Tuesday night under the Exmouth Town lights in this second semi-final of the Devon Premier Cup.

Budleigh Salterton opened the scoring with an early goal coming from George Pannell who shot past Darren Bingham in the fourth minute.

St Martins brought the scores level on the stroke of half-time when Danny Pym scored direct from a free kick taken just outside the Robins penalty area.

The second half saw no further goals which meant the tie went to extra time.

The first 15 minutes also failed to see either side register a goal but midway through the second half of extra-time Robins defender Reece Stevens was adjudged to have fouled Danny Pym in the box.

Darren Bingham came up from his own goal to the other end – he was standing in as keeper - to take the spot kick and made no mistake as he gave his side a 2-1 lead which they held for the last seven minutes.

There was no joy for the Robins at Halford on Saturday, where they dipped to a 2-1 defeat against Liverton United.

The Robins had their chances – four times the Livers’ keeper was forced to make saves – but they couldn’t score.

Fifteen minutes from time Budleigh failed to clear from a corner and Liverton sub Thomas Johns cracked home the goal.

Liverton wanted a second and got it right on full time through Ollie Aplin.
