Budleigh Salterton ladies’ slim chance of gaining the Westward Developments Devon League Division One title may have disappeared with the dropping of two valuable points when they shared six goals with hosts Plainmoor, writes SpursTom.

Straight from the kick-off Budleigh forced a corner which was easily dealt with the by hosts’ defence. A clearance kick to launch the counter-attack landed in the visitors’ half, where sloppy marking allowed Plainmoor to open the scoring with just two minutes gone!

A remarkable goal-line clearance by Lucy Burch moments later prevented her team going 2-0 down. However, a second goal was conceded, but a good finish from Bec Long saw the Robinettes head into the break just 2-1 down.

Four minutes into the second half Budleigh fell further behind, but once they found their feet in the second half, with confidence growing, a superb 20-yard strike from Hannah Dawe flew into the net!

That set up the Robinettes to go in search of an equaliser and it finally arrived in the closing minutes through Amy Salter. Honours even, and few who watched the contest would argue against that being a fair outcome.
