Radcliffe stars as Exmouth United U11s win well at Okehampton

Exmouth United Under-11s were good value for their 3-1 Exeter and District Youth League win at Okehampton Argyle, writes Nic Lopez.
The home side made a strong start and the United defence had to work hard to keep them at arm’s length. However, the pressure told and there was nothing that United glovesman Noah Brown could do about the strike that gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.
However, as had happened before, falling behind simply served to strengthen the United resolve and, with Jack Lopez orchestrating things in midfield, United gained a foothold in the contest.
With Euan Sutton, William Cotton and Jacob Radcliffe forging a solid alliance in defence, it was no surprise when parity was restored with Alfie Yabsley scoring with a shot from the edge of the area.
During the break, United manager Carl Farr had some strong words for his side and the lads took in everything he said and looked a recharge unit in the second half.
Dominic Lawrence got on the ball more and ran at the home defence causing problems. He also linked well with Crawford and, when a Lawrence shot was parried by the goalkeeper, Zach French pounced to drill the ball home. Once ahead, the United confidence levels rose and, after some tactical tweaking by the coach, a third goal arrived thanks to a sweet long range strike from Louis Farr.
At 3-1 up it was time for good game management and it was provided by Barney Tate, who sat in front of the back four to deny the hosts any opportunities to find a way back into the game.
Once again this side earned its win the hard way. As a group, it was a unanimous decision that the Man of the Match award should go to Jacob Radcliffe, who kept the team in the game with some brave, well-timed last-ditch defending.
