Woodbury Reserves edged out Beer Albion Reserves in what proved to be a seven-goal thriller.
Despite not having played since October 25 there was no sign of rustiness in the Woodbury ranks with Wayne Gooding heading home Steve Hunts’ third minute corner. For the remainder of the half the visitors failed to create any clear cut openings in the half thanks to Wayne Rowsell stepping into a new defensive role and expertly marshalling the home defence.
Early in the second half Michael Simpson hit a 30-yard shot that caught the Albion keeper off-guard and the ball was fumbled over the goal-line.
Moments later it was three, when striker Jordan Bishop was upended in the box and Hunt slotted the ball home from the penalty spot.
Beer then began a comeback and scored twice in quick succession, but Woodbury rallied well and a left footed strike from Man of the Match Ryan Pearson gave Woodbury breathing space. An injury time third for the visitors from the penalty spot was too little too late as Woodbury deservedly claimed victory.
