Budleigh Reserves were beaten at home by a slick Newtown side on saturday.

Budleigh Reserves were beaten at home by high flying Newtown in their latest Devon and Exeter league top flight game.

It was a wind swept Greenway Lane that staged the game and Robins put in a very good shift throughout the first half.

With the wind at their backs, the Robins forced the Newtown keeper into a couple of good saves and were unlucky not to take a lead into the break.

The second half saw the Exeter side have the considerable benefit of the elements and the home side were, quite literally, blown away.!

Within ten minutes of the re-start the visitors had a two goal lead which put the home side very much on the back foot.

Luke Kelsall did pull a goal back after a good burst from the midfield but the two goal advantage was quickly restored as slick Newtown struck their third to seal a 3-1 win and show just why they are amongst the title favourites in the top flight this term.

James Nicholls was one of the best performer’s and Mike Hancock had a very good game.

Next up for the side is a trip to Halwill on Saturday for an East Devon Cup last eight game and, after knocking out top flight leaders Seaton Town in the previous round, Manager Wayne Rowsell will be hoping for no slip up’s against a side currently in the bottom three of Division One.
