THE Royal Marines threw away a commanding two goal half-time lead to end up having to share the spoils with visiting St Austell in their latest outing in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division outing.
ROYAL Marines AFC boss Richard Pears was left most unhappy after his side were forced to settle for a share of the spoils with St Austell on Saturday.
The Militarymen were in charge of the Endurance Park game, leading 3-1 with two thirds of the contest completed.
Then the sending off of Shae Saunders coupled with some poor defending saw the Cornish side score twice to draw the game 3-3.
The die was cast on an afternoon of errors when the hosts’ glovesman Liam Jones dropped the ball at the feet of a visiting player to gift the visitors the lead.
A Dan Boere set piece was then thumped home by Jason O’Brien. Six minutes after levelling the Militarymen were ahead. Stuart Morgan, a recent recruit from Torpoint, set up George Robinson and then the lively Morgan was upended in the area and Boere slotted the spot kick to send the home side into the break leading 3-1.
Two yellow cards in the space of a minute on the hour led to the dismissal of Saunders and that was the impetus the visitors required.
A minute after the red card Danny Burwood hauled down an attacker and Jones was beaten from the spot and, twenty minutes from time came the games sixth and final goal
This weekend Endurance Park plays host to the table toppers, Buckland Athletic (3pm).
