THE ROYAL Marines are preparing for their first season in the South West Peninsula league Easter Division. The Marines Football Club was formed as recently as February 20 this year and will play their home matches at Endurance Park which is the new title afforded to their pitch opposite the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone.
The team is to be predominantly made up by members of the Royal martines although it is also open to civilians who will be welcome to attend the pre season training session.
The first of those sessions is at Endurance Park on Thursday July 3 (6.30pm) under the guidance of Manager Shaun Foster, assistant Terry Price and coach Jim Lyons, all of whom are no strangers to Devon football having been regulars for Exmouth Town, Budleigh Salterton and Ottery St Mary in the past.
The Club will be holding a Fundraising event on Friday July 4th at Samantha's Nightclub in Exmouth and the venue has agreed to donate all the door money for the function to the Royal Marines football team.
Club Chairman Paul Collinson said: "Its a great gesture by Samanthas to donate the door money to Royal Marines AFC in what should be a great night".
Tickets are £3 in advance and can be obtained from The Bank, No 9 or Samanthas or £5 on the night. Doors open 10pm till 3am. Collinson also says: "we do have opportunities for ground advertsing around the pitch at Endurance Park and would welcome any potential sponsors."
