A QUITE magnificent second half display by Exmouth Ammies Under-13 girls saw them lift the Devon Girls Football League Cup with a 4-1 victory over Pinhoe Spartans Girls.Despite having the better of the early exchanges, the Spartans could not make their initial dominance pay and they squandered a number of opportunites. However, the Ammies quickly settled into their task after the early scares and began to dominate proceedings. They were so nearly ahead in the 20th minute when Allesha Carney found Megan Marks-Chadwick who, in turn, struck a fine shot that was saved well by the Pinhoe keeper. The possession finally paid off in the closing stages of the first half when Lauren Tucker played in Manfy Sharpe and she cut in from the left to rifle a shot home from an acute angle to take Ammies into the break with a much deserved lead.Ammies started the second half very strongly and it was no surprise when doubled their advantage five minutes in.Chadwick chased down a long goal keeper clearance, robbed a Pins defender and crossed for Emily Steer who saw her shot saved but, when the ball broke to Sharpe, she hammered it home from distance.Pinhoe hit back almost immediately, despite a brilliant effort by Ammies stopper, Beth Acca, to keep the ball out.It did not take long for the two goal lead to be restored as Kitty Oldfield played the ball out of defence to Carney who, in turn, played an excellent ball into the danger zone, following a bit of scramble the ball eventually fell to Steer whosmashed it into the back of the net from close in.Ammies then made a double substitution to bolster the defence with Beth Jones and Hannah Davey summoned from the bench. Now fully in charge the impressive Sharpe made it 4-1 from close range to seal her hat-trick to round off what was a superb second half display by the whole Ammies team, one that warranted them rightfully lifting the League Cup.
