Lympstone 3, Dolphin 4
The Lympets, beaten 6-1 in the first league meeting between the sides, were unlucky not to come out of this game with something to show for their contribution to a compelling game.
For the first hour Lympstone showed why they should be pushing for promotion with a solid display of hard work and a great team effort that saw them take a three-goal lead with a brace from the industrious Aaron Land and a sweet volley from Hayden Figures.
The Exeter-based side’s route back into the contest was a fortuitous one! What looked a soft penalty was awarded the visitors which was superbly kept out by Lympets gloves man Benn Canning only for the match official to order a re-take for encroachment.
The ball was tucked away and this gave the table toppers renewed vigour from which they never looked back. A defensive error resulted in a second penalty that was also slammed home and Dolphin completed a 15-minute recovery with first an equaliser and then what proved to be a winner.
Hayden Figures was named the Lympstone Man of the Match for his for his goal and an all-round solid display that often saw him make some terrific tackles.
There was an impressive debut performance from 16-year-old Connor Breslan who showed a real desire to pitch in against far more physical opponents!
