Lympstone 3, Colyton 4
Lympstone slipped to only their second defeat of the Fresha League Division Two season when they were beaten by the odd goal in seven at Endurance Park.
It was a below-par performance from the Lympets, particularly in the first half when they made a sluggish start and fell behind, punished for some poor defending.
The character in this current Lympets side is not something to question and they bounced straight back with Jamie Ballard the scorer.
However, Colyton, who arrived for the game seeking their first win of the season, had been boosted by their early goal and they added two more, both clinically finished, to hold a 3-1 advantage at half-time.
Lympstone skipper Chris Eynon netted from a corner to put his side back into the contest and, when Wood levelled with ten minutes to go all looked set for another home win.
The visitors had other ideas and, straight from the restart broke clear. Lympstone keeper Ben Tilley, later named Man of the Match made a superb save only for the ball to fall kindly to an opposition player who calmly squared it for a colleague to tuck away and seal a narrow victory.
If it was gloomy with the senior side then not so with the Lympets Reserves as they secured a handsome point from a 1-1 draw at table-topping Alphington Reserves.
In a Sunday fixture Lympstone veterans trailed 6-0 at the break, but improved significantly in the second half to pull one back on their way to a 6-1 defeat to Pinhoe.
