Archant

Lympstone are now the only side in the Macron League Division Three after a fourth win in as many games, but they had to come from behind before going on to defeat Clyst Valley 4-1.

The game at Endurance Park was played out in wet and windy conditions and the visitors had a chance to take the lead when they had a penalty, but Lympstone glovesman Hayden Figures made a smart save. However, minutes later, Figures was beaten when poor defending at a corner led to a goal being conceded.

Lympstone were soon level as Schlaefli and Bassett linked up prior to the latter scoring. A goal from new signing John Ekins sent Lympstone into the break with a 2-1 lead. Connor Breslin was introduced early in the second half and he made an immediate impact providing an assist for another new signing, Mikey White, to score. With Kerry Butler at the heart of much of the Lympets’ attacking play it was no surprise when a fourth goal was scored with Schlaefli finding the back of the net.

With McMahon and Pond in charge of things in a solid home defence, there was no way back for the visitors as Lympstone made it five straight wins in league and cup this term.

The Saddlers sponsored Man of the Match award went to James Nicholls for his terrific all-round performance from the left back berth.

Lympstone: Figures, Branton, Nicholls, Mcmahon (c) , Pond, Butler, Dunne, Ekins, Bassett, White, Schlaefli. Subs: Wright, Pearce, Breslin, Radford.
