Budleigh made a disappointing early exit from the Throgmorton Cup, beaten at Greenway Lane by Exeter Civil Service.

The defeat was particularly harsh on Robins keeper Adi Pullin, who made a fine penalty save and, with five minutes remaining, that save was seeing his side through after Sam Bird had nodded in Darren Carr’s 73rd minute cross.

Three minutes before the goal, Pullin had made a superb save to deny White from the penalty spot.

There was nothing the experienced glovesman could do about the 85th minute equaliser and then, with the game heading for extra-time, the Exeter side struck in the final minute to land the 2nd Round berth in what is the Peninsula League, League Cup competition.

Tim Nield had a fine game for the Robins, who are in league action this Saturday with the visit of last season’s champions, Liverton United (3pm).
