East Budleigh were well beaten by table topping Morchard Bishop who left Vicarage Road with the points from a 3-0 win.
EAST BUDLEIGH entertained Division One table topping Morchard Bishop and can have no complaints about the result as the visitors produced a good strong display, writes Mark Auton.
It was an entertaining game with both sides attempting to play football and it was also an easy game to referee with hardly a poor challenge seen, but it was the visitors who were the better side with Budleigh’s final ball or decision making often not up to scratch.
It took Budleigh 35 minutes to test the visiting stopper; Josh Sale exchanging passes with Simon Tuley before his shot was parried by the visiting glovesman.
The only goal of the half arrived in the 38th minute and but for an excellent block from Phil Page and a goalline clearance from Dave Evans, Morchard may well have been further ahead.
Three minutes into the second half the away stride struck a hammer blow to go two ahead to make the task even harder for Budleigh.
Substitutes Mickey Cope, Matt Plowman and Dan Reynolds all joined the action with their youthful enthusiasm; But with Budleigh struggling to provide a killer pass it was a Tuley overhead kick and a Sale long range drive that almost got the home fans off their seats.
With players committed to attack Morchard took full advantage adding a late third to their tally and cemented a four point lead at the top of the table.
Budleigh visit Elmore on Saturday and will look to restore confidence with a victory, whilst East Budleigh Reserves return to league action in Division 6 when they play host to Clyst Valley. Both games have 2.15pm kick-offs.
