THE Football Association has had a change of heart with regard to girls playing football.

Previously the FA had ruled that mixed football had to stop at under-11.

The resolution was fully supported by The FA Board, FA Executive and FA Council and the result means that girls and boys will be able to play in the same teams at U12 and U13 level from next season (2011-12).

Locally Brixington Blues, Exmouth Amateurs, Exmouth Town, Topsham Town and Budleigh Salterton all provide youth football and so girls who qualify in the under-12 and under-13 age groups can look forward to greater opportunities in the coming season.
