Exmouth United Under-9s booked a place in the final of the Exeter and District Youth League KO Cup after a superb success over CS Cougars at Speeds Meadow, Cullompton.

The two sides sit in the top two berths in the league’s progress chart and it was expected that the semi-final would be a tremendous game.

The two teams did not disappoint and produced a classic encounter before a large Mid Devon crowd.

The early sparring saw both teams looking to boss the ball. Cougars relied heavily on their extreme pace, a weapon that was countered superbly by the United defensive dup of pairing of Bryn Stephens and Dylan Mogford.

From the solid base the pair provided Cayleb Field was able to orchestrate things from central midfield. On the counter Cougars again threatened only for the quick thinking United winger Kuba Strzalkowska to nip the threat in the bud and half-time arrived with neither side able to find that elusive opening goal.

After the break United changed tactics and began to press the ball high up the pitch which gained them more control of proceedings. However, Cougars still carried a threat on the break, but Bryn Stephens was equal to the best they could muster.

The match-deciding moment arrived when Dylan Mogford struck from close range.

There was great joy at the full-time whistle and United will not run out at the home of Exeter City on May 4 when they will meet Exeter Panthers.
